  “The Hazar was much impressed by the report of your performance.” The head concubine, Delia, stepped out of the water and waited while servants patted her skin dry.

  One servant placed a silver tray on the table between the two chairs. Devices that resembled inoculation wands lay in a bed of white linen.   “Open the curtains, Delia,” a richly melodic voice ordered.
